A Hero

Last week I received an email from a good friend that her nephew, Spc. Anthony Blount, had been killed in Iraq. The vehicle carrying his Army unit had been hit by a road-side bomb.

Anthony lived in Petal, MS just miles from where we live. He was 21 and married to a very sweet girl that is 8 months pregnant with their first child, a little girl.

I would consider Troy and I very patriotic people. We fly the American Flag on our front porch 365 days a year. We pray daily for our solders and their families. We send care packages when we can. These things are so small! I found myself so struck by this fine young man's death this week. He gave the ultimate sacrifice so now I can hold my precious 2 week old baby in safety. His precious wife will raise a little girl without an earthly father because he was protecting me and my family.

Saturday I was at a stop light when a police officer stopped us for a procession. I was unaware until the first car drove through that is was this fallen hero's procession. I have to be honest that as I opened the door to stand by the car with my hand over my heart my eyes welled up with tears. What a generous man.

What can we do? I know God is the protector and I hope you and your family pray for our solders and their safely. Pray for the Christians serving overseas that they may share the good news of great joy to their fellow solders that have never met the Risen Lord.

Pray for their sweet families that pray daily for their safe return. Pray for the families that hold a flag and wait their reunion in Glory.
